Our tailored 1:1 mentorship programme could be just what you’re looking for!
With three different mentorship options to choose from, we have curated an affordable and achievable set of mentorship study modules, with the option to tailor your individual mentorship to the skills you wish to learn.
With an option to also join Lady & the Hound once certified, this mentorship programme really is unique in its offering - learn the ropes with us and then go on to set your own business up* or join our team and have the autonomy of working as a self-employed canine coach or carer, whilst also being part of an established dog training business.
Our mentorships are limited to just four trainees a year so please enquire directly to avoid disappointment!

Imogen is an accredited dog trainer with the ABTC and APDT and has over 10 years industry experience in practical dog handling, canine behaviour, coaching people and families, presenting and public speaking, dog first aid tuition and she is passionate about helping other small businesses and start-ups.
*Please note that those wishing to study with us to become independent industry professionals in their own right, can only do so if they live in a non-competing postcode area (outside the M25).

Working with different age groups
Different aged dogs (and breeds) have different needs when it comes to canine care and coaching. Learn how to apply varying skillsets when working with dogs of different breeds and ages.

Rescue Dog Rehabilitation
Learn how to best support rescue dogs and their families. We also offer guidance on how to help advise guardians in their search for a rescue breed, including the legalities around owning certain breeds and the best ethical practices to follow when considering adopting a rescue dog.

Supporting Sensitive Dogs
Develop an understanding and empathy for how some dogs can struggle with certain environments. You may have heard of terms such as “reactivity” or “separation anxiety”…but what do these labels really mean and how can we best support these dogs?

Dog First Aid Certification
An essential pre-requisite for all canine professionals working in the industry. Join one of our emergency canine care courses which are offered in a variety of locations nationwide. (Optional add-on).

Guidance on Accreditation Routes
In an industry which is still unregulated, it’s vital to get the right accreditation and recognition for your skills. We’ll guide you through the different options and can help you prepare for your own assessment and examination process.

We’re passionate about supporting other small business and have over 10 years experience in the industry - we’ll share some mistakes we have learnt along the way and also our top tips for things like sourcing the most comprehensive and cost effective business insurance.

Based in Surrey, Lady & the Hound is one of the most established dog training businesses in the SW London and Surrey area. Our team is currently expanding and we welcome new trainees to join us.
Mentorship options
We have three different mentorship options which can be studied individually or together, with the option to tailor your individual mentorship by adding on extra modules such as canine care and canine first aid.
Our Foundation Training module has been designed to give applicants a comprehensive overview of what a career in dog training involves, as well as some of the essential theoretical knowledge and basic handling skills. Applicants who complete this mentorship are in a good position to either go on to further their own education or set their own businesses up in canine care and coaching.
The Core Skills module provides applicants whom have completed their foundation training with us, the opportunity to further their theoretical knowledge and handling skills. Trainees at this stage can start to consider specialisms in areas such as puppy training, adolescent training, scentwork, rescue dog rehabilitation, senior dog support, husbandry and more. At completion, applicants can go on to set their own businesses up with the confidence of being educated and skilled in their chosen field of study.
And finally, our Proficient Trainer module is open to applicants whom have completed our first two mentorship stages and would like to join our own team. Completing this part of the mentorship provides applicants with the unique insights into working with one of Surrey’s most established canine care and coaching businesses.

Training Route
* Applicants will be required to gain hands-on experience with a variety of different dog breeds and ages in a classroom environment (minimum of 10 hours) and to keep a journal of their observations and learning. Surrey applicants may have the opportunity to do this with Lady & the Hound but this is subject to availability at the time of applying and is not guaranteed. *Applicants will need access to their own dog for study and assessment purposes. Foundation Training £750

~ Classroom versus private tutoring considerations

~ 10 hours 1:1 mentorship plus a recommended additional 10 hours of self study:
4 x 1.5 hour tailored online support sessions
4 x 1 hour tailored practical handling sessions*
~ Final assessment will be in the form of a 2000 word assignment and a 1 hour technical skills exam (in-person or online).
~ Includes a certificate upon completion with a record of completed learning and study hours.
